Behind the Podcast: Overcoming the Employment Stage-Fright
YE4C is happy to share a series of podcasts with you about the different paths that youths can take when transitioning to adulthood. These episodes were recorded by young people who interviewed peers and adults alike about their various experiences in navigating college and the professional world. Check out this episode about Carter and let us know what you think!

Though he had listened to podcasts before, Carter explains that this was his first time recording a podcast episode. He shares his anxieties about conducting a podcast, "It was pretty nerve-racking because your talking and you don’t know if you sound alright or if anyone will even care about your topic and if you're doing a podcast with someone else like I did you don’t know what to do really." Recording a podcast itself can also be difficult as it "really takes a lot of time, energy, patience, and hard work."
In this episode, Carter interviews his drama teacher, Miss Jana Harrison, about her career path. We hear how Carter’s bond with his teacher has elevated his life and how vital mentors are to youths. In choosing to interview his drama teacher, Carter believed there was a lot both he and a youth audience could learn from by interviewing an established teacher. He says he "wanted to know from them what it takes to get a job or how many years of school for a certain career do you have to take."
Furthermore, he hopes the audience gains a lot from listening to his episode. He details, "I hope they gain the knowledge that maybe what you thought you were gonna be when you were younger isn’t what will happen in the future because things change, people change. I want them to know that even if your family or friends aren’t interested in what you are into or they don’t like it that doesn’t mean you have to stop doing what you love."
We are so excited to explore the podcast medium through our YE4C Radio and present episodes for youth by youth about youth in a way we have not tried before. Don't forget to check out our new Education & Career Toolkit for more content about education and careers.
