Congratulations, Maison, Faria, and Kaylee!
During October, YE4C, in partnership with The Osborne Association, launched a contest as part of #SeeUsSupportUs Month to help raise awareness about what it’s like to have a parent or caregiver who is incarcerated, and advocate to improve visiting at prisons and jails. We asked youth to answer the questions: Why is visiting important? What is visiting like? What can make visiting at a prison or jail better? Submissions could be in the form of an original image, drawing, photograph, or meme, and 1-2 sentences describing the image. We were inspired by the thoughtful entries from each youth! Voting was open to all for 4 days. The three entries below received the most votes and the winners received a $50 Amazon gift card. Congratulations to the winners!
We are excited to have received different and unique perspectives from our 3 contest winners. YE4C will be hosting more contests like this on various topics in the future. Be sure to follow YE4C on Instagram and Facebook for more information on the contests and how to enter.
“My image describes how I felt when my dad was in prison and I was only able to have phone calls with him. It also tells how I would use video calls to change that.” – Maison T.
“This is a poem and picture that displays my love and admiration for a person who is incarcerated in the family. If anything, it is important to show that you still love my parents person from afar, and getting that certainty of safety and connection is necessary to be implemented.” – Faria T.
“My image is explaining that no matter what don’t give up and when u feel down just put a thumbs up and say u got this I’m going to be okay this is only a lesson not a punishment 💪🏾” -Kaylee J.
